Dallas police are investigating after one person was shot during by an off-duty police officer on the northwest side of Dallas early Sunday morning.
The shooting happened around 2:20 a.m. in the 10700 block of Finnell Street, according to Dallas PD.
The Dallas Police Department said officers were working an off-duty job when they heard a gunshot. The officers went towards the sound, where they saw two people fighting in a parking lot.
Police say one person had a gun and the other individual had a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the face, according to a press release. Officers gave verbal commands to the armed suspect, who refused to comply and ran away.
Additional officers then confronted the suspect and after multiple commands to drop the gun, one officer fired his handgun, hitting the suspect.
Officers provided medical treatment until Dallas Fire Rescue arrived. Police say the suspect was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The other individual was treated at the scene.
No officers were injured during the pursuit, police said.
The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office and the Office of Community Police Oversight were both notified of the incident. Police say the Dallas District Attorney’s Office will conduct their own investigation.
