Gilas Women end Jones Cup stint on 3-game skid

MANILA, Philippines–Gilas Pilipinas Women ended their 2025 William Jones Cup campaign on a sour note, falling to Chinese Taipei, 76-57, in their final game in Taipei, Taiwan.

The loss came just a day after a 94-74 defeat to Japan, which officially knocked the Philippines out of title contention.

Vanessa De Jesus led all scorers with 15 to go along with eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. Jack Animam proved to be the Philippines’ anchor in the paint again with seven points and 11 rebounds but to no avail.

Wang Yueyu led Chinese Taipei to the win with 14 points while the collective of Huang Qiaojun, Yu Qinhua and Xiao Yuwei finished with 13, 12 and 12 points, respectively.

Before bowing to Japan and Chinese Taipei, the Filipinas also absorbed an 80-58 beating from South Korea.

Their lone win came against Thailand, 83-66, as Gilas finished with a 1-4 record at the end of the tournament.
