Death Toll Climbs; Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick Vows Texas-Wide Upgrades to State’s Alert Systems.

KERRVILLE (WBAP/KLIF) – Lt. Governor Dan Patrick says Texas lawmakers will address the danger warning shortcomings apparent in the devastating death toll in six different regions around Central Texas this weekend. Most of the deaths are in Kerr County’s towns of Hunt, Ingram, Comfort and Kerrville.

Latest numbers show 84 killed in the flooding in Kerr County; 10 Camp Mystic campers and possibly adults remain missing. The total death count is now up to 104 statewide, but as the searches continue for live victims, more bodies are being found in flood debris.

Patrick says Texas lawmakers will work to upgrade the warning system during the Special Session called.

In Kerrville, Patrick says it’s apparent some visitors to the region for the holiday weekend may not have received county wide alerts as to the dangers, and, he believes sirens should be in place and activated as additional insurance. He also wants to see sirens installed and activated in times of emergency. Mindful some communities may not be able to afford that, Patrick says the state would then step in, and fund both placement of sirens and maintenance of them.
