MANILA, Philippines—Jordan Heading relished making the PBA Philippine Cup Finals just a month after making his debut for TNT.

Heading led the Tropang 5G’s march back to the all-Filipino championship after they knocked off the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in Game 6 of the semifinals on Sunday night.

“I’m really, really fortunate to be in this situation, be with these guys and be able to be with them at this moment in time,” said Heading.

“I know we’re all going to do whatever we can to hopefully win that Grand Slam and for myself to be able to be a part of that on the last part would be really, really special.”

Heading, the former Converge cog, quickly fitted into TNT’s system after being traded to the squad just last May for the rights to Mikey Williams. He also didn’t play right away for the Tropang 5G, not until June 8, due to back issues.

In the biggest game of his young PBA career–a closeout game against a feisty Rain or Shine side, the Fil-Aussie guard dazzled with 29 points, including timely baskets down the stretch. He also collected three rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Heading and the Tropang 5G, who are only four wins away from a rare Grand Slam, will have a few days off for a much-needed breather before going back to work.

“We’ll give these guys a couple of days off to go out and be themselves first to keep their minds off basketball,” said coach Chot Reyes.

“It doesn’t matter who we’re playing, they’re both very formidable opponents. We just need to take care of the things that are within our control, that’s our preparation and our planning,” he added.

TNT will face either Barangay Ginebra or San Miguel Beer in the Philippine Cup Finals. The Gin Kings forced a deciding Game 7 on Sunday behind the heroics of veteran point guard LA Tenorio, who hit the game-winning triple with 2.6 ticks to go.
