Nationwide — Dr. Michael T. Williams, CEO of DocWmsOne Educational Consulting Services and Education Consultant for the North Carolina Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, has been recognized as one of the 2025 Who’s Who in America honorees. His inclusion in “Who’s Who in America,” stems from his significant achievements and contributions to society over his thirty (30) plus year career serving youth and their families. In addition to this honorific, Dr. Williams is the 2021 National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE) W.E.B. DuBois Higher Education Award recipient. He was also named as one of ten North Carolina First Bank Out of This World Educators.
Dr. Williams hails from the Huntersville section of Norfolk, Virginia. He is a 1994 graduate of Virginia State University where he majored in Sociology. He continued his education at Norfolk State University and in 1999 he earned a graduate degree in counseling. In 2020, he completed a joint Certificate of Graduate Studies and Doctor of Education program at Cambridge College in Boston Massachusetts. His publications include his dissertation entitled “The Impact of Response to Intervention Services on Special Education Referrals” and “I Count Too: Affirming Students Who Look , Love, Learn, and Live Differently.”
He has been a noted workshop facilitator at several regional and national conferences hosted by various entities to include the National Alliance of Black School Educators, National School Board Association, Correctional Education Association, Council of State School Board Associations, American Correctional Association, Alliance for Higher Education in Prisons, American School Counselors Association, North Carolina Association of School Administrators, Council of Urban Boards of Education, Idaho/Oregon Council for Exceptional Children, Maine Administrators of Services for Children with Disabilities and the Virginia Collaborations Conference to name a few.
At the North Carolina Division of Juvenile Justice and Juvenile Delinquency Prevention Services, Dr. Williams serves as team lead for the cadre of Student Transition Coordinators housed within their Youth Development Centers. In this capacity, he has led his team in implementing and expediting a plethora of programs to assist justice involved youth successfully transition back into their respective communities. Under his leadership the team has facilitated College Fairs within the youth development centers in conjunction with the College Foundation of North Carolina College Month Activities; partnered with local employers and vocational training programs to execute Career fairs; and executed Real World simulations during second chance month to prepare residents for life beyond the facility.
To assist the community and agency partners become more acquainted with the challenges and barriers residents face when they return to the community, he assembled agency partners together to develop and plan the first juvenile re-entry simulation held within the state. Additionally, Dr. Williams serves as the lead representative on the agency partnership with the NC Community College system and has led the team in the initiation and implementation of the Virtual Learning Project which allows students to take community college and certification courses while housed in juvenile facilities. This partnership has resulted in scores of students earning transferable college credits, Safe Plates certifications needed to obtain employment in the hospitality industry, National Career Readiness and OSHA certifications and other credentials.
As a community advocate, he has offered himself as a candidate for public service on several different occasions. Most recently he was a candidate for the Wake County School Board and placed second in a field of four candidates. He was appointed by his county commissioner to serve on the Wake County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council which oversees programming and funding for youth who are having difficulty at school, home, and/or in the community or at risk of becoming known to the court or justice system.
As he enters the final quarter of his career, his goal is to continue providing optimal services for youth and their families and helping prepare the next generation of human services professionals serve the consumers within their respective genres and communities.
