Nationwide — Lamarr E. Lewis, LAPC, CPRP, is an African American nationally recognized mental health therapist, speaker, and the founder of Lewis Family Consulting. At this year’s When I See Me BIPOC Children’s Book Fair, he will host a session guiding children through an engaging, play-based session called The Magic of Emotionsville: Adventures in Feelings, designed to help young minds navigate emotions through storytelling, creative play, and reflective conversation.
The book fair will take place Saturday, July 26, from 11am to 4pm at the West Branch Library at 300 Abbey Avenue in Dayton, Ohio. In its second year, this one-of-a-kind event is more than just a book fair—it’s a joyful celebration of identity, literacy, and emotional wellness. With over 75 inclusive titles and 20 BIPOC authors traveling from across the country, families will discover the power of seeing themselves in the pages of a book.
Mr. Lewis is a dedicated advocate, author, and agent of change. As a community-based practitioner for almost 25 years, he works with diverse groups including individuals living with psychiatric disabilities, people in recovery from substance abuse, and at-hope youth. (He does not use the term “at-risk”.)
“Children are brilliant, vibrant, and full of potential,” he comments. “When they put pen to paper, they do more than write—they transform anxiety into agency. Through play and expression, we help them build resilience, confidence, and a sense of belonging, especially for those who rarely see themselves reflected in books.”
Every child in attendance at the event will receive a voucher for a free autographed book, a Chick-fil-A gift card, a SOCHE writing journal, multicultural crayons, and more!
