State Sen. Angela Paxton files divorce from Texas AG Ken Paxton ‘on biblical grounds’ after ‘recent discoveries’

Texas State Sen. Angela Paxton announced she has filed for divorce from Attorney General Ken Paxton “on biblical grounds.”

DALLAS — State Sen. Angela Paxton announced Thursday she filed for divorce from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton “on biblical grounds.”

In a statement posted to X, Angela Paxton (R-McKinney) wrote: “I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation. But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage.”

Ken Paxton posted a statement in response to the filing Thursday, calling it a “new chapter” and asking for prayers and privacy.

“After facing the pressures of countless political attacks and public scrutiny, Angela and I have decided to start a new chapter in our lives,” he wrote. “I could not be any more proud or grateful for the incredible family that God has blessed us with, and I remain committed to supporting our amazing children and grandchildren.”

The Paxtons, who reside in Collin County, have been married for 38 years, moving into the political public eye in 2008 when Ken Paxton was elected to the Texas House of Representatives, then the Texas State Senate, before being elected Texas Attorney General in 2014. He most recently announced a bid for U.S. Senate, an election in which he’ll face longtime Republican senator John Cornyn in a primary.

Angela Paxton was elected to the Texas State Senate in 2018.

Collin County court records confirm Angela Paxton filed for divorce Thursday.

WFAA reached out to Angela Paxton’s office for further comment but did not immediately hear back.

“I move forward with complete confidence that God is always working everything together for the good of those who love Him and who are called according to His purpose,” Angela Paxton wrote in her statement.

While details about the “discoveries” announced by Angela Paxton on Thursday remain unclear, this isn’t the first time Ken Paxton has faced scrutiny over his marriage.

During his impeachment trial in 2023, testimony alleged that Paxton had an alleged mistress, Laura Olson, who was called to testify at the trial. Olson arrived at the Capitol but was ultimately “deemed unavailable” to testify, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who was presiding over the trial, announced.
