Beloved Black Dad of Two Shot and Killed by Guest at His Own 4th of July Party | FROUSA Media

Nationwide — Tim Conover, an African American father of two young children from Oakland, California, was fatally shot at his own Fourth of July party by a guest he considered a close friend. The tragedy happened just after midnight as he was saying goodbye to visitors.

The shooting occurred around 12:30 a.m. Saturday on the 800 block of 41st Street in North Oakland. According to KTVU, Conover had hosted a holiday gathering at his residence, where friends and family came together to celebrate.

His relatives said one guest stayed behind after the party. Conover noticed the man appeared to be under the influence and offered him a place to sleep on the couch. As Conover stepped outside to see off other guests, the man allegedly found Conover’s gun, followed him outside, and shot him multiple times.

Conover died at the scene. The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Dwane Stewart, was arrested the next evening. He is being held at Santa Rita Jail without bail on suspicion of murder. Investigators have not yet disclosed a motive.

Conover leaves behind his partner and their two children. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support the family during this time. It has so far raised over $32,000.

“Tim, was an example of loving without conditions. His heart was full of love and gave to all he could. He would feed you, laugh with you and send you home with a happy heart,” the fundraiser states.
