TARRANT COUNTY, Texas — Former Tarrant County Commissioner Gary Fickes, who served on the commissioners court for nearly two decades, has died, the county confirmed Friday. He was 75.
Fickes represented Northeast Tarrant County on the court from 2006 to 2024. He was also mayor of Southlake from 1989 to 1996.
“Commissioner Fickes served Tarrant County with distinction for 18 years, leaving a lasting legacy through his commitment to infrastructure development, public health, and economic growth in northeast Tarrant County,” the county said in a statement.
In a statement published on X, Tarrant County Judge Tim O’Hare called Fickes “a true public servant whose long and respected career left a lasting impact on the people of North Texas.”
“His dedication to community service was unmatched,” O’Hare wrote. “I have great admiration for the life Gary lived — marked by integrity, purpose, and service to both his community and his family. He will be deeply missed.”
