Grok 4 Hilariously Fails ‘How Many Fingers?’ Test But Jack Dorsey Says It Is Correct; Here’s How

Elon Musk announced the launch of Grok 4 and user reviews are in for the super expensive AI model ($300/month subscription). One user online posted a screenshot of the latest Grok model spectacularly failing a simple visual test. The image posted to the chatbot shows six limbs; however, when asked, “how many fingers?” the user stated, “Grok 4 failed this test too.” The user further claimed that “Earlier, Gemini 2.5 Pro and o3 also couldn’t pass.” He added, “This one’s tougher than HLE.”

For the unversed, the HLE or Humanity’s Last Exam, is a language model benchmark that comprises 2,500 questions. It was developed by the Center for AI Safety when its director, Dan Hendrycks, got inspired after a chat with Elon Musk. Per the Tesla boss, the existent tests like the MMLU (Massive Multitask Language Understanding) were too easy for AI. The questions in the HLE test were submitted by several contributors, which were selected after rigorous scrutiny.

Here’s a secret shot of one of the several fascinating questions

Meanwhile, amid a flurry of reactions, former Twitter co-founder and boss Jack Dorsey cheekily remarked, “5 fingers, 1 thumb.” Erm, well… that’s one way to look at it.

Meanwhile, the user remarked in a follow-up tweet,

“Grok 4 Heavy got this right as 6 fingers, but a lot of people are saying the Grok-4 answer 5 is correct.”

He added, “So here’s my question for you: When someone asks how many fingers you have, do you say 8 fingers and 2 thumbs or just 10 fingers?”
