Dog named Superman rescued from flood

A dog named Superman was found last Sunday amid the debris of his home in central Texas.

KERR COUNTY, Texas — Even Superman needs his own heroes.

Superman was found alone on a large pile of debris after the devastating floods in Central Texas that tragically took the life of his person.

The nonprofit shelter Austin Pets Alive! says they think his owner pulled him out of the water and saved him. But sadly, Superman’s owner died in the flood.

The rest of the dog’s family was pulled to safety, but it wasn’t until later their pet was found atop a pile of the home’s debris.

Superman didn’t go easily, protecting his former home before shelter group members could get him.

“Superman was hesitant to trust the search and rescue crews, snapping as they were trying to save him,” said Austin Pets Alive! “With patience and a bit of dog-whispering, volunteers were finally able to earn his trust and safely remove Superman from the scene.”

Now, the organization says he’ll stay with a foster family until his owner’s family can get back on their feet.

The shelter group says they hope Superman’s story will help save more pets in dire circumstances.

Dr. Ellen Jefferson, APA! President and CEO, hopes Superman’s story will encourage people to support animal rescue efforts. “It’s been devastating for all living beings,” she stated. “So many people are searching for their pets that are the last connection they might have to a lost family member. Pets are so intertwined in this saga and it’s so important.”
