‘Together for Texas’: Rangers, Astros will wear t-shirt in support of flood victims

The Rangers and Astros wore “Together for Texas” t-shirts, featuring both teams’ logos, during batting practice Friday.

DALLAS — Some things really are bigger than sports, and that’s no cliche in this instance.

The Texas Rangers and Houston Astros — heated rivals on the field, and sometimes off it — teamed up Friday night to show their support for victims of the devastating Hill Country flooding.

The Rangers and Astros wore “Together for Texas” t-shirts, featuring both teams’ logos, during batting practice before Friday night’s Rangers-Astros game at Daikin Park in Houston.

“When a disaster hits anywhere in our state, the Texas Rangers organization stands ready to respond,” Karin Morris, Executive Director of the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation, said in a release. “This particular disaster is so tragic and impacts every corner of the state.  We are here to help cover immediate needs today, as well as in the days, months and years to come.  We thank our first responders and volunteers for their tireless work.  Our prayers and thoughts are with the families impacted.”

The t-shirt show of support is just the latest commitment from both clubs toward flood recovery and relief efforts. Both the Astros and Rangers have committed $1 million apiece toward flood relief efforts in Central Texas

“It’s important to the entire Astros organization to send immediate support to our fellow Texans throughout the Hill Country during this devastating time,” Astros Owner and Chairman Jim Crane, alongside his wife Whitney, said in a news release. “There is a lot still unknown as recovery efforts are ongoing, but the Astros are committed to supporting Central Texas communities in the long term through the coming days, months and years to help rebuild and heal.”
