Walmart to open new neighborhood market in Mesquite

Walmart is adding a new small-format store east of Dallas, according to state filings.

MESQUITE, Texas — A fast-growing corner of North Texas will soon have a new grocery option, according to state filings. 

Walmart will open a new neighborhood market store in Mesquite next year, according to a new filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The smaller-format store is about a third of the size of a Walmart supercenter, about 45,000 square feet, the filing states.

Construction on the new store is expected to begin in October 2025, and a tentative opening date is set for summer 2026, the filing states. The store will be located at 3100 E. Cartwright Road in Mesquite, according to the filing. 

Grocers have expanded their offerings east of Dallas in recent years, WFAA previously reported. H-E-B is expected to open two new stores in Mesquite and Forney in the coming years, according to data from commercial real estate firm Weitzman. Other major retailers such as Costco and BJ’s Wholesale Club are also expected to open stores in the area soon.

Walmart already has two neighborhood market locations in the community, located at  915 N. Town East Blvd and 951 Military Pkwy, according to the Dallas Business Journal. Plus, a Walmart Supercenter at 200 US Highway. 

The project is expected to cost $14.1 million.
