FRISCO, Texas — A man who was wanted for capital murder was arrested Wednesday after fleeing from police during a traffic stop in Frisco, police said.
According to a news release from the Frisco Police Department, an officer conducted a traffic stop at about 4:22 p.m. in the 300 block of Stonebrook Parkway. When the officer approached the vehicle, police said he smelled marijuana and had them step outside while the officer waited for backup.
During this time, police said the officer was speaking with the driver, a woman, and the passenger, a man, when the man fled the scene on foot. According to police, once more officers arrived at the scene, the suspects’ vehicle was searched and a handgun and marijuana were found inside.
Police said drones were launched to assist officers searching a nearby neighborhood in the direction the suspect ran, and while the search was underway, a resident called police to report that a man had jumped their fence. The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Jonathan Elizalde, was found shortly after the call hiding under some bushes.
According to Frisco PD, Elizalde was wanted for capital murder in Dallas County and theft of property. He was also charged with evading arrest or detention on foot, police said.
Frisco PD said the driver of the vehicle, identified as Genccis Barrientos Echeverria, 25, was arrested for possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
Police said both suspects were taken to the Frisco Detention Facility.
