DALLAS — Police at Southern Methodist University arrested a man accused of making online threats against the campus on Wednesday after a two-day search for him.
According to SMU, Ian James Smith, 23, was arrested in Dallas and charged with making a false alarm or report. Officials said James is unaffiliated with the university, though he does have a criminal history with it.
SMU said that Smith has previously been arrested for harassment and stalking students at the school. On Monday, the university announced that he had made online threats against the campus and an advisory was sent out as police were searching for him.
According to records, Smith is being held at the Dallas County Jail.
“SMU Police thank the University community for providing tips about the subject,” the university said on its webpage.
