Jean Henri Lhuillier applauds strong showing of RP Davis Cup team

The team—featuring Cebuana Lhuillier-backed stalwarts AJ Lim, Niño Alcantara and Ruben Gonzales—set the tone for the tournament with a near-flawless showing, keeping alive their mission to clinch one of two prized promotion slots to Group III.

“We’re thrilled with the strong and decisive win of AJ Lim as well as the excellent performance of Niño and Ruben in the doubles,” said Lhuillier, who also heads Unified Tennis Philippines and previously served as Davis Cup team manager. With their strong showing and depth across the roster, I believe the Philippines will emerge victorious until the end.”

Lim gave the country its first point with a composed 7-5, 6-1 win over Nickolas Ngodrela. A former junior world No. 12, Lim has become a Davis Cup regular known for his baseline dominance and court intelligence.

Alcantara and Gonzales, both longtime Davis Cup veterans, sealed the sweep with a 7-5, 6-2 doubles win over Brett Baudinet and Maka Ofati. Alcantara is best known for winning the Australian Open Boys’ Doubles title in 2009—an unprecedented feat for a Filipino junior—while Gonzales, a U.S.-born ATP Challenger tour campaigner, has been a steady force for the Philippines in international play.

A passionate tennis advocate, Jean Henri Lhuillier has long been at the forefront of developing the sport in the country. Through Unified Tennis Philippines and Cebuana Lhuillier, he has consistently supported athletes at both the grassroots and elite levels, helping shape a new generation of Filipino tennis champions.

“These results validate our investment in Filipino talent and the enduring spirit of our tennis ambassadors. They are not only winning matches—they are inspiring a new generation of athletes,” he added.
