Teenager stabbed after fight at North Texas community park, police say

The suspect, 18-year-old Christopher Robert Nienhuis, was arrested by police and charged with aggravated assault causing bodily injury.

MIDLOTHIAN, Texas — A teenager was arrested Tuesday after allegedly stabbing another teenager at a North Texas community park following a fight, police said.

The Midlothian Police Department (MPD) said officers responded at approximately 8:43 p.m. Thursday to Midlothian Community Park, located at 3601 S. 14th Street in Midlothian, regarding multiple 911 calls about a fight. Several callers reported that two men were arguing in the parking lot near the baseball fields. They also reported that the altercation became physical, and one of them pulled out a knife.

Callers said that someone had been cut before the fight ended.

When officers got to the scene, they found out the victim, identified as 17-year-old Dylan Almanza of Ennis, had been taken to the hospital by his friends. He was later transported to Methodist Mansfield Medical Center, police said. Almanza was in serious, but stable condition, according to Midlothian police.

Officers learned that the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Christopher Robert Nienhuis of Midlothian, left the park with three other people. Police obtained a warrant for the arrest of Nienhuis, and officers went to the home and took Nienhuis into custody, MPD said.

Nienhuis is charged with one count of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury with a deadly weapon, which is a second-degree felony, police said. Additional charges are pending, according to police.
