Arch Madness! A Look at the UT Quarterback by the Numbers

16

Not only is this the same number that Manning wore while playing high school ball at Isidore Newman in New Orleans, it’s also the digits his uncle Peyton sported during his college days as a Tennessee Volunteer.

0 Losses

While Manning has relieved Quinn Ewers in several games, he’s only been the starter twice, both of which resulted in wins. That streak will see a stiff challenge when the ’Horns open the season on the road against the Ohio State, the very team they couldn’t best in last year’s College Football Playoff semifinal. While the Buckeyes have lost some key players, it will likely be a first-week matchup between a pair of top 10 squads.

68% Passes Completed

Sure, it’s a small sample size, but Manning’s accuracy has looked great so far—on par with the best players in college football and a few points better than predecessor Ewers’ stats last year.

12 Games

With all the fanfare surrounding the young signal caller, it’s hard to believe that Manning has played in just a dozen college/UT games. But those brief flashes have yielded glimpses at a player that warrants the hype and potential to lead Texas to a great season.

75 Yards

During last year’s tilt against UTSA, Manning uncorked an arcing pass to Ryan Wingo for a picture-perfect touchdown and his longest completion of the year. That could be a sign of things to come for the adept passer, who has developed an affinity for the deep ball.

13 Touchdowns

On about 30% of Manning’s career scores, he has found the endzone by running the ball. The QB possesses a dual-threat skillset, but keeping the ball opens him up to injury risk—and Coach Steve Sarkisian doesn’t have another stud waiting in the wings as he did when Manning backed up Ewers. How Sarkisian schemes up those offensive weapons will be interesting to watch.

$6.8 Million

Thanks to NIL deals with entities like Red Bull, Uber, and Vuori, Manning has the highest projected valuation of all college athletes, leading the next player by more than $2 million. And that number could continue to climb as the season goes on. This enormous payday while still a student avoids pressure on Manning to declare for the NFL draft—and increases the likelihood he’ll be a Longhorn for longer.
