FORT WORTH, Texas — The longtime chef behind a popular Fort Worth burger spot is asking for help several months after he was assaulted in his own restaurant.
May 13, Chef Carlos Rodriguez of Fuego Burger was assaulted at his restaurant and suffered compound fractures and ligament damage to his knee, the Fort Worth Star Telegram reported. At the time of the incident, his family expected Rodriguez to be away from the restaurant for several months, but now it’s clear the injury will keep him sidelined even longer.
Fuego Burger is known for its green chile cheeseburger with crispy cheddar jack cheese protruding out from the burger bun.
Nehemiah Green, 24, of DeSoto was attested and charged with assault as a result of the incident, according to the Fort Worth Police Department.
Rodriguez, known by regulars as Senor Fuego, still faces a long road to recovery, according to a GoFundMe page set up to aid in his recovery. His knee fracture will require surgery, according to the GoFundMe. Like many small business owners, he does not have insurance.
“We are grateful for all the support so far,” the GoFundMe states. “Every message, card and letter that has been sent has been touching and appreciated. Thank you for your understanding and support as we are navigating through this tough time.”
Rodriguez is working the grill, despite the fractured knee, while he waits to schedule the surgery, the Star Telegram reported. For now, the restaurant will remain open six days a week with a full menu.
