Forbes released the list of the world’s 50 richest self-made women. Countries with the most self-made billionaire women hail from the US and China.
There are 18 self-made billionaire women from the United States and 18 more from China and Hong Kong, thereby leading the leaderboard. None of the other countries have even three.
Canada, India, Indonesia, and the United Kingdom (UK) have two each.
Meanwhile, Australia, Greece, Italy, Russia, and Vietnam have one each. The top 10 richest self-made women on the list are as follows.
#1 Rafaela Aponte-Diamant ($38.8 billion) Switzerland
#2 Diane Hendricks ($22.3 billion) United States
#3 Zhong Huijuan ($15.6 billion) China
#4 Zhuo Qunfei ($10 billion) Hong Kong
#5 Denise Coates ($8.5 billion) United Kingdom
#6 Judy Faulkner ($7.8 billion) United States
#7 Wang Laichun ($7.2 billion) Hong Kong
#8 Marian Ilitch & family ($6.9 billion) United States
#9 Ling Tang ($6.6 billion) Canada
#10 Lynda Resnick ($6.3 billion) United States
The only two Indians in the list are
#31 Nykaa’s Falguni Nayar with $3.4 billion net worth
and
#32 Biocon’s Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw with a net worth of $3.3 billion
Falguni Nayar became a billionaire amid Nykaa’s IPO in 2022. Meanwhile, philanthropist Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw is the 91st wealthiest person in India. Hopefully we see more in the list from the subcontinent.
The Forbes report states
Altogether there are 1,920 men across the globe who have built billion-dollar fortunes, more than 18 times as many as women. The planet’s self-made billionaires are worth a collective $11.2 trillion. Men—led by the likes of Elon Musk, Larry Ellison and Mark Zuckerberg—hold $10.8 trillion of that wealth, or 96%, leaving the most successful women around the globe with just 4% of the pie.
It adds,
Still there is plenty of reason for optimism, starting with the fact that self-made women now make up 3.5% of the entire billionaire set, a small percentage but about 50% higher than their share back in 2017.
