The new policy will be in effect for the 2025-2026 school year, Fort Worth ISD Superintendent Karen Molinar announced.
FORT WORTH, Texas — Fort Worth ISD students, of all grade levels, will now be required to display a student ID badge at all times while on campus, the district said.
The policy will require all students to display a campus-provided photo ID badge, which must be visible at all times while on campus during school and after school activities.
The consequences for not having a visible ID can range from a verbal warning to in-school suspension.
At a Fort Worth ISD school board meeting Tuesday, Superintendent Karen Molinar addressed parents’ concern that the ID’s lanyard would be a choking hazard for younger students. The lanyard will have a breakaway closure and will be safe for young children, Molinar explained.
The district will also establish procedures to help manage ID badges for the district’s youngest students, she added. They will not be required to wear ID badges during recess or PE, she said.
Students will use the badges when checking out library books, purchasing food and checking into the bus, Molinar added.
There is no tracking software associated with the badges, Molinar said.
