312,000 Ford vehicles recalled: F-150s, Broncos and more affected

Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than 312,000 vehicles over a defect that could cause drivers to lose power brake assistance while driving, potentially increasing stopping distances and crash risk.

The recall affects 2025 model year Ford F-150, Expedition, Bronco and Ranger trucks, as well as the Lincoln Navigator SUV. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced the recall Thursday.

The problem involves the Electronic Brake Booster module, which may malfunction and enter a “faulted state” while driving, according to Ford’s recall report filed with federal regulators. When this happens, drivers lose brake boost until the vehicle is turned off and the system resets.

The defect can also occur when drivers are using advanced driver assistance features like automatic emergency braking, potentially preventing the vehicle from braking as expected.

When brake boost is lost, drivers will notice several warning signs:

• Anti-lock brake system, electronic stability control and brake warning lights will illuminate
• Dashboard warning messages will appear
• An audible alert will sound
• The brake pedal will feel different and require more travel

Ford said the brake booster motor is susceptible to voltage disturbances that can cause a current surge, shutting down the system.

The recall includes these 2025 model year vehicles:

• Ford F-150: 217,969 vehicles (produced May 8, 2024 – June 9, 2025)
• Ford Bronco: 39,913 vehicles (produced May 31, 2024 – June 17, 2025)
• Ford Expedition: 26,582 vehicles (produced Nov. 8, 2023 – June 9, 2025)
• Ford Ranger: 20,552 vehicles (produced Feb. 5, 2024 – June 20, 2025)
• Lincoln Navigator: 7,104 vehicles (produced Nov. 9, 2023 – June 9, 2025)

Ford will update the brake booster software free of charge through an over-the-air update beginning in August, or owners can take their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealer for the repair.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed starting Aug. 25. Ford said it is aware of 37 warranty claims related to the issue and one alleged low-speed crash, but no injuries or fires.

Ford said vehicles affected by the recall were not produced in VIN order, so owners should check with the company or a dealer to determine if their specific vehicle is included.
