Horizon Lakes will offer 1,800 homes, miles of hike-and-bike trails, a recreational lake, pickleball courts, a lakeside restaurant, an amphitheater and more.
MCLENDON-CHISHOLM, Texas — A new luxury, master-planned community is coming to Rockwall County, and leaders broke ground on the project this month.
Horizon Lakes is a 900-acre, 1,800-home upscale, amenity-rich community designed for “first-time and move-up buyers seeking scenic living, resort-style features” located on Farm to Market 550 in the city of McLendon-Chisholm.
The groundbreaking ceremony marked the beginning of Phase 1, which will deliver approximately 590 home sites and a premier amenity center overlooking the lake, officials said in a press release. The groundbreaking featured numerous local leaders, including McLendon-Chisholm Mayor Bryan McNeal, Rockwall County City Manager Lorne Liechty, members of both the McLendon-Chisholm and Heath City Councils, as well as Huffines Enterprises and Huffines Communities founders Don and Phillip Huffines.

Horizon Lakes will offer homes ranging from the low $500,000 to $2 million range, with amenities including miles of hike-and-bike trails, a recreational lake, pickleball courts, a lakeside restaurant, an amphitheater, and a modern event space.
This master-planned community is not the only housing development coming to the area, either. D.R. Horton is fighting a legal battle with the county over land it owns just down the road from Horizon Lakes, also in McLendon-Chisholm, where the builder has plans to bring several hundred homes to southern Rockwall County.
Horizon Lakes is expected to deliver its first homes in 2027.
