Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano 3: Oak Cliff 40-year-old champion boxer set for undercard on Netflix live event from MSG

WFAA profiled Shurretta “Chiccn” Metcalf in April after she won the IBF bantamweight title just before turning 40. She also signed with Jake Paul’s brand MVP.

DALLAS — Shurretta “Chiccn” Metcalf, a 40-year-old mom from Oak Cliff who won the IBF bantamweight title in October 2024, will take the ring in front of millions of worldwide viewers Friday.

Metcalf is part of the undercard for Netflix’s second live boxing event, Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano 3, from Madison Square Garden in New York City on Friday, July 11. It will be the first-ever all-women’s boxing card in Madison Square Garden history, according to Netflix.

WFAA profiled Metcalf in April, days after she signed with Jake Paul’s promotion, MVP. Metcalf was one of four women boxers who joined the MVP roster.

“I am honored and overjoyed to have signed with MVP, Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian. They are the premier promoters in women’s boxing, and I look forward to being a part of their family,” Metcalf said at the time, per a press release. “I thank them for this opportunity and I plan to make MVP proud that they are giving me this opportunity.”

Metcalf was born and raised in Oak Cliff in Dallas, Texas. She grew up in a low-income household with two younger siblings. Her mother worked hard for the Dallas Independent School District and never knew her father. Metcalf was a talented student, a standout basketball player and also excelled at track and field.

She had her first son at 20 years old and her second son two years later. Her oldest, born in 2005, was diagnosed with autism at a young age. Metcalf did a variety of jobs to survive and raise her two boys. To help make money, she turned to underground boxing in 2012 and fought over 100 fights, sometimes fighting as often as twice a week, Netflix said.

Metcalf turned pro in 2016 and has amassed a 14-4-1 with two knockouts, including her first world title win in October 2024 at Madison Square Garden with a unanimous decision against then-IBF champion Miyo Yoshida.

Metcalf (14-4-1, 2 KOs) will fight against Cherneka Johnson (17-2-0, 7 KOs) Friday, July 11 on Netflix to defend her IBF women’s bantamweight title and also for the vacant WBC and WBO women’s bantamweight title.

The Netflix live event begins at 7 p.m. CT, with the main event, Katie Taylor (24-1, 6 KOs) vs. Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano (47-3-1, 31 KOs), set to begin at 10 p.m. CT. A watch party is being held at 6 p.m. CT at Thibodeaux’s Authentic Cajun Cookin’ in Duncanville.
