2025 Resolutions

SDS Stands Firmly Against Trump’s Attacks on Education

WHEREAS, Trump’s first year back in office has been characterized by rampant attacks on all sectors of the people. Every action his administration takes is aimed at the repression of movements for students, workers, immigrants, the LGBTQ+ community, women, people of Black, Chicano/Latino, Asian nationalities, and more.

WHEREAS, the Department of Education has undergone mass firings and political purges, weakening the agency’s ability to serve students, enforce civil rights protections, to administer aid programs effectively, and

WHEREAS, the Trump administration has enacted sweeping cuts to student loan and financial aid programs, including reducing Pell Grant eligibility, slashing funding for campus-based aid, and restricting access to FAFSA, disproportionately harming low-income and first-generation students, and

WHEREAS, federal grants that support higher education research, student services, and institutional development, especially at public universities, community colleges, and minority-serving institutions, have been defunded or drastically reduced following Trump’s proposed and enacted budgets, and

WHEREAS, Trump has reintroduced aggressive student loan collection tactics such as wage garnishment, tax refund seizures, and Social Security offsets for borrowers in default, further criminalizing debt and worsening financial hardships for millions of students and graduates, and

WHEREAS, these actions are a direct assault on access to higher education and economic mobility, and reinforce structural barriers for low-income, Black, Brown, and immigrant communities, and

WHEREAS, compounding this financial harm is the Trump administration’s ideological campaign to strip diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) from higher education entirely, strong-arming universities into eliminating DEI programs/initiatives in schools by outlawing them or threatening revocation of federal funding, and

WHEREAS, whether it be dedicated cultural centers, ethnic studies departments, or cultural associations for students, all spaces and programs meant to encourage diversity are under fire. For example, administration at Loyola New Orleans quietly renamed the multicultural room over the summer to a “multi-purpose room” called the “One Loyola Room”, forced the Black Student Union to rename their lounge, and the Women’s Resource Center to rename all together. Universities across the country have responded similarly by abandoning these programs wholesale under threats of losing federal aid, and

WHEREAS, Trump has ramped up attacks on transgender youth and reproductive rights, with Women’s centers and LGBTQ+ centers on campus coming under attack as part of a protracted campaign against DEI. Access to potentially lifesaving reproductive healthcare and gender affirming housing have been the first things to go as administrators bow down to Trump’s agenda. At Tulane University, the Office of Gender and Sexual Diversity (OGSD) was quietly erased, and its staff were forced into another office where they cannot publicly provide for LGBTQ+ youth, and

WHEREAS, attacks on women’s rights have intensified under Trump. Trump has restricted access to abortion by supporting state-level abortion bans that violate constitutional protections, and dismantling reproductive healthcare services such as Planned Parenthood, and

WHEREAS, the Trump administration weakened Title IX protections by rolling back guidelines on campus sexual assault, making it harder for survivors, most of whom are women, to report abuse and seek justice in educational institutions, and

WHEREAS, since Trump’s return to office there has been a measurable rise in anti-Black racism across the country that is fueled by his open dismissiveness of the existence of systemic racism and seeks to dismantle protections for marginalized communities, and

WHEREAS, under Trump’s renewed leadership, white supremacist and far-right groups have become increasingly emboldened, resulting in a surge of hate speech, racist campus incidents, and threats against Black students and faculty, creating an environment of fear and hostility within higher education, and

WHEREAS, Trump has weaponized federal power against efforts to address systemic racism in education with policies that explicitly target race-conscious initiatives which ban/restrict DEI programs and labels racial justice education as “divisive” and “ideological”, and

WHEREAS, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other minority serving institutions are facing unprecedented funding cuts which include the elimination of federal grants and research grants, further marginalizing Black students and institutions in an already unequal higher education landscape, and

WHEREAS, these attacks on Black students are a part of Trump’s broader racist agenda that includes his encouragement of racist police crimes against Black people by attacking oversight agreements like the New Orleans consent decree, which Trump’s DOJ filed to remove prematurely without a mandated review period, effectively shielding police officers from accountability for racist violence, and

WHEREAS, at the same time that Trump works to strip Black Americans of their basic civil rights, he deploys the National Guard to predominantly Black and Brown cities like Chicago, D.C., and Memphis as a way to use state violence to criminalize and suppress these communities, and

WHEREAS, through the implementation of anti-immigration policies, and the criminalization of immigrants as ICE raids and terrorizes unsuspecting communities, Trump is declaring the same racist, reactionary war with immigrants in an effort to vilify and restrict the movement of non-citizens, a campaign which has also extended to international students seeking education in the U.S., and

WHEREAS, these attacks on international students are not only a continuation from Trump’s first term but a gross escalation as he personally targets international student activists who dare to fight for a free Palestine, such as Mahmoud Khalil and Rumeysa Ozturk, with the weaponization of deportations, and

WHEREAS, these events do not sit in isolation but rather are part of a broader anti-immigration agenda rooted in xenophobia, and
WHEREAS, by treating immigrants and international students as security threats rather than valued members of our communities, the Trump administration is not only harming individuals, but also undermining U.S. higher education, and

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That chapters affiliated with National Students for a Democratic Society will:

Stand in firm opposition to the Trump administration and do everything in their power to thwart Trump’s reactionary agenda.

Work to build the widest possible alliance and call on all those who can be mobilized to join us in resisting Trump’s agenda on campus and in the streets.

Not tolerate Trump’s attacks on the people and will call national days of action to respond with force to new attacks on our rights.

Pressure university administrators not to fold to the racist and repressive actions taken by the GOP, but rather to stand up and fight back.

Pressure universities to stand alongside their students, faculty, and staff and defend them from right-wing agitators who want to intimidate students and make education only accessible for wealthy white people.

SDS Fights for Immigrants’ Rights!

WHEREAS: Student activists such as Mahmoud Khalil, a permanent US resident, was victimized by ICE for exercising their First Amendment rights, setting dangerous precedent for any immigrant who speaks out against the government.

WHEREAS: On September 8, 2025, the Supreme Court empowered ICE to conduct immigration stops based solely on race, exposing Chicanos, Mexicanos, Centroamericanos, and every other Latin American, with and without papers, to ICE repression.

WHEREAS: On July 4th, 2025, Trump’s government voted to dramatically increase ICE’s budget with the “One Big Beautiful Bill”, tripling its budget and increasing its capacity for terror.

WHEREAS: The illegal deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran national with mixed legal status, which set a dangerous precedent for the millions of mixed-status families living in the United States.

WHEREAS: Deportees are now confined into newly-built ICE detention centers, where deportees are subjected to barbaric and inhumane living conditions. These include prisons such as “Alligator Alcatraz”, “The Dungeon”, “Speedway Slammer” and “Cornhusker Clink”.

WHEREAS: Many deportees have been sent outside of their original homelands and dumped into prisons, war-zones and open-air detention camps. These souls have uncertain fates.

WHEREAS: On January 20th, 2025, President Donald Trump signed Executive Order 14190, threatening to abolish birthright citizenship and create a permanent stratum of second class citizens.

WHEREAS: ICE has expanded the repression into primary and secondary schools, converting classrooms and playgrounds into places of terror and annulling the very concept of “sensitive locations”.

WHEREAS: Many college students, in particular those who are first or second generation immigrants, hail from mixed-status families and live one door knock away from the disappearance of loved ones.

WHEREAS: In certain states such as Texas, undocumented students have been denied access to in-state tuition and financial aid, locking many out of higher education entirely.

WHEREAS: Last summer, we saw millions of people take to the streets in the defence of immigrants’ rights, with many students leading walk-outs and highway shutdowns throughout the United States.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT NATIONAL SDS:
Oppose all further expansions of ICE terror, in particular at the university and its environs;

Call upon local SDS chapters to protect their immigrant classmates, especially those who may be targeted in retaliation for exercising their constitutional right to protest;

Call upon local SDS chapters to demand that their campuses become “Sanctuary Campuses”, where universities cease cooperation with ICE and police departments who assist them, and where campus grounds are denied access by ICE agents without a valid judicial warrant;

Call upon local SDS chapters to demand that their universities restore in-state tuition and financial aid access for undocumented students, in states where such access have been lost;

Release national statements if and when further attacks on immigrants’ rights and students occur throughout the year;

Hold National Days of Action in defence of immigrants’ rights and our classmates!

Defend Free Speech on Campus!

WHEREAS: The right to free speech is constitutionally protected under the First Amendment, upheld by Supreme Court decisions, such as Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District, and furthermore protected under state laws.

WHEREAS: The Trump administration has cracked down on pro-Palestine speech, including detaining and threatening to deport international students such as Mahmoud Khalil, Leqaa Kordia, Rumeysa Ozturk, and many others for standing up against the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has promised to revoke passports of citizens who may use their freedom of speech to condemn the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.

WHEREAS: At Loyola University, New Orleans, the student Carson Cruse was suspended for speaking out against the shipment of supplies and weaponry to the zionist entity known as “israel” from New Orleans.

WHEREAS: At Tulane University, 7 SDS members were put under investigation for participating in a peaceful off-campus protest against cuts to DEI and threats to the immigrant community. Multiple students were threatened with suspension, expulsion, and one was threatened with deportation.

WHEREAS: At the University of South Florida, the Tampa Bay SDS chapter has been illegally banned from campus by the administration due to the Gaza Solidarity Encampment, with members Joseph Charry and Victoria Hinckley suspended and expelled respectively, and with more members receiving disciplinary actions for constitutionally protected expression.

WHEREAS: Multiple SDS chapters have already taken up campaigns for free speech on campus, uniting aggressive legal strategies with direct action defending our right to protest.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT STUDENTS FOR A DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY WILL:
Reaffirm our First Amendment right to free speech, press, and assembly.
Mobilize and organize as many students as possible to defend the right to free speech on campus, including the right to protest the genocide in Palestine.

Pursue different strategies and actions to uphold the right to free speech.
Build coalitions with and organize other student groups to attain the goal of securing freedom of speech.

Defend free speech on campus!

Students Say: Hands Off Progressive Movements!

Whereas: The FBI raided Alejandro Orellana, an immigrant rights activist and Centro Community Service Organization member on the morning of June 12th, 2025, alongside the LA County Sheriff and National Guard troops. He was arrested on charges of “conspiracy to commit civil disorder”. In reality, Alejandro was distributing personal protective equipment to his community, such as masks and goggles. The LAPD and National Guard troops were deploying tear gas and shooting protesters eyes out with rubber bullets; Alejandro’s actions show that he wanted to make sure his community members got home safe, and show nothing illegal on his part.

Whereas: Palestinian student leader Mahmoud Khalil was detained by ICE in March, 2025 despite being a legal permanent resident. It is clear that he was targeted for his pro-Palestinian activism and being a prominent leader in the Columbia student encampment movement.

Whereas: Similar to Alejandro Orellana, David Huerta was also arrested and detained for anti-ICE and pro-immigrant protesting.

Whereas: Trump’s administration has taken a special interest in targeting those who protest and organize against its reactionary agenda. Even though immigrant rights activism, anti-war activism, and pro-Palestinian activism are not illegal, all of the people mentioned above have faced legal repression for their activism and standing with the majority of people in the country who want what they are fighting for.

Whereas: Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) has a long history (most clearly with the campaign to drop the charges on the Tampa 5) to fight back against repression that activists face all around the country. Additionally, SDS has also fought back against repression students faced during the encampment movement, with students having their charges being dropped after being violently arrested by police. More recently, National SDS has also released statements calling for all charges to be dropped on Alejandro Orellana before the movement had successfully fought off his repression.

Therefore, be it resolved:
Mobilize SDS against all cases of political repression against activists fighting for popular and progressive movements.

SDS will call national days of action in support of activists facing political repression.

Demand an end to arresting and bogus charges levied by the FBI and other federal organizations targeted at progressive activists.

SDS will commit to supporting activists facing political repression by supporting their defense campaigns at protests and its members will be encouraged to donate if donations are necessary and if members have the means to do so.

Resolution to Continue Student-Labor Solidarity

Whereas solidarity between the student movement and the labor movement is crucial for winning demands in the face of opposition from university administrators;

Whereas both students and workers are threatened by Trump’s attacks on higher education and university administrators’ compliance leading to budget cuts, pay freezes, and layoffs;

Whereas the austerity programs of university administrators means tuition hikes and student cutbacks oftentimes come alongside cuts to campus workers’ pay and layoffs;

Whereas, just as an injury to one is an injury to all, a win for a union is a win for the working class, and a win for a campus union is a win for the student body;

Whereas campus unions such as the UAW and AFSCME have proven to be strong allies in the fight against Trump’s attacks on immigrants and DEI;

Whereas recent union drives, campaigns, and strikes such as Higher Ed Labor United’s Kill the Cuts campaign and the Teamsters strike at the University of Minnesota show labor is willing to take on campus administrators alongside the student movement;

Whereas most students upon graduating will enter the working class, after having paid increasingly large amounts for tuition, while campus staff, custodial, maintenance, and food service workers are underpaid and overworked for the essential labor that makes the university run;

Whereas progressive student and labor movements have historically been united in our demands for racial, gender, class, and disability justice;

Whereas the relationships built between SDS and the labor movement through working side by side have helped to build and strengthen both movements.

Therefore, be it resolved that Students for a Democratic Society:

1) Will participate in and organize solidarity actions in support of labor unions on campus and unions in our communities.

2) Will support campus unions where appropriate in their campaigns against university administration.

3) Will walk the picket lines and attend strikes held by unions.

4) Will aid in the gathering of donations for strike funds, and provide material support such as food where possible.

5) Will invite union members and labor organizers to attend and speak about their work at our actions and events.

6) Will attend and provide speakers for labor actions when requested.

7) Will never cross the picket lines of striking workers.

SDS Demands Trans Liberation Now!

Whereas: In 2025 thus far, a record number of bills specifically targeting transgender people have been introduced, with over 900 considered and over 100 passing and a plurality focused on education, and;

Whereas: Lifesaving healthcare for transgender youth is under attack by the Trump Administration, state governments, and the Supreme Court, such as through Executive Order 14187, the targeting of Medicaid programs, and rulings allowing states to ban youth transgender healthcare;

Whereas: Trans students are increasingly being targeted with bans on participation in sports, forced outing policies, and invasive requirements to “prove” their gender, barring many trans, queer, and gender non-conforming youth from bathrooms, athletic programs, and safety at school, and;

Whereas: Transphobic violence continues to escalate, disproportionately affecting Black trans women, while trans people themselves are increasingly being scapegoated as responsible for violent acts;

Be it therefore resolved that:
National SDS will hold a national day of action for each of National Trans Day of Remembrance, and National Trans Day of Visibility;

SDS chapters will demand universities provide and maintain access to transgender healthcare, education, and counseling;

SDS chapters will support and defend trans athletes’ ability to participate in university sports in accordance with their gender identity;

SDS will defend and demand expansion of university resources and policies utilized by transgender students, including those relating to bathrooms, housing, locker rooms, and classrooms, as well as policies outlining consequences for transphobic harassment and violence;

SDS chapters will counter transphobic propaganda through rallies, educational events, and counter protests;

SDS affirms the difference between sex and gender, and will oppose any legislation that attempts to codify them as the same;

SDS will link the fight for trans rights to other movements including those against racism, attacks on reproductive rights, and reactionary politics in general;

Call upon local SDS chapters to organize in opposition to any legislative attacks on LGBTQ+ rights;

Call upon local SDS chapters to fight for more gender neutral bathrooms on campus in the places where that is needed;

SDS will be prepared to quickly respond to further attacks on transgender people.

No to U.S. Wars, Intervention, and Sanctions Anti-War Resolution

Whereas: Since our last convention, the U.S. has bombed Yemen for over a month, from March 15th to May 6th, and continues to threaten the Yemeni people and hinder the sovereignty of the legitimate government of Yemen. On June 22nd, the U.S. bombed Iran with the help and support from the Zionist Entity known as Israel. On September 2nd, the U.S. bombed a Venezuelan fishing boat as a threat to the Venezuelan people. The U.S. has continued to fund the war in Ukraine, sending billions of dollars and weapons. The U.S. sends innumerable arms, tax dollars, and other aid to the Zionist Entity known as Israel to slaughter and commit genocide on the people of Palestine and Lebanon.

Whereas: Since 2001, the U.S. has repeatedly launched criminal wars of conquest and devastating bombing campaigns across Southwest Asia, North Africa, and Afghanistan. These wars have left millions dead, tens of millions displaced, and nations torn to asunder. For most Americans, these wars have meant nothing but flag-draped coffins, lower government investment in public resources, and increased repression for the anti-war movement. For oil companies, war profiteers, and the politicians they’ve bought off, these wars have meant record profits and more countries for them to destroy and exploit.

Whereas: The Zionist Entity known as Israel is a U.S.-backed genocidal regime that acts as a bloodthirsty rabid dog on behalf of U.S. interests by bombing Syria, Iran, and Yemen, and invading Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon. The constellation of resistance forces from across the Middle East has stood steadfast against these attacks, meeting zionist aggression with unparalleled courage and resilience. The U.S. government has been just as steadfast in its support for the Zionist Entity known as Israel, It has provided billions of taxpayer dollars in military aid. For example, as of June 2025, over 40,000 U.S. troops are stationed in the Zionist Entity known as Israel and Southwest Asia. The U.S. government has also provided invaluable diplomatic support to the genocidal regime. This was seen earlier this year with the U.S. government’s exertion of its power to continue the process of normalization, offering aid and investment to the new Syrian Government in exchange for recognition of the Zionist Entity known as Israel.

Whereas: U.S. politicians, from reactionary Republicans to corporate and establishment Democrats, are beating the drums of war, in particular a war with Venezuela, China, Iran, and the popular resistance across Southwest Asia. With politicians supporting the illegal bombings of Yemen, Iran, and Venezuela over the past 6 months.

Whereas: The U.S. continues to occupy the Southern Half of the Korean Peninsula with over 28,500 soldiers currently stationed, one per roughly 1,800 Koreans. Hundreds of times a year, it commits cruel war games such as Ulchi Freedom Shield, which turned Korea into a training ground for US wars for 200 days in 2024.

Whereas, as the brutal regime of the Philippines’ President Marcos Jr continues, the US facilitates oppressive economic and military action in the Philippines by enforcing unfair trade regimes and through military exercises. Such as the annual Balikatan exercises, which result in parts of the Philippines being bombed through the use of live rounds and bombs being used in “full-scale battle” tests that are nothing more than the US and its allies using the Philippines as their testing ground for a future war against China.

Whereas: The newly renamed Department of War has repeatedly threatened the sovereignty of Venezuela, killing at least 21 fishermen off the coast of the country under the lousy excuse of fighting against drug cartels. The U.S. has threatened the Venezuelan people for decades, launching an economic war of sanctions and constantly working to undermine the sovereignty of the Bolivarian Government through numerous coup attempts and failed invasions.

Whereas: Trump, backed by both Republicans and Democrats has his sights on war with China, pivoting the U.S. empire towards Asia with the Republic of Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines all being used by the U.S. Military as the launching pads for ships, aircraft, and troops to invade China, turning them into the battleground for U.S. aggression and empire.

Whereas: The United States, along with European governments, continues to maintain and use military bases across the African Continent in service of their financial and geopolitical interests in countries, centered in countries like Uganda,

Whereas: The history of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) is deeply intertwined with the mass movement against the war in Vietnam. Our legacy is boldly anti-war and anti-U.S. aggression. New SDS reaffirms that, as students in the heart of a global empire, fighting back against U.S. military aggression must remain at the core of our organization. This reaffirmation is vital as the U.S. is hell-bent on instigating a wider war in Southwest Asia and a new war against China. We must oppose all US-backed wars by continuing to build a fighting student movement in the belly of the beast.

Therefore be it resolved:

Demand that our universities divest from War Profiteers and genocide;

Mobilize students to oppose all U.S. interventions and wars;

Organize against economic warfare and oppose the murderous sanctions the U.S. government imposes on the world;

Organize campaigns to oppose military recruitment and military partnerships on our campuses;

To oppose US wars and military partnerships with regimes such as the Philippines;

Organize to oppose the aims of the War Department and fight back against the planned War with Venezuela;

Organize against the building war machine against China and denounce the pivot towards Asia;

Demand an end to all U.S. aid to the Zionist Entity known as Israel and a withdrawal of all U.S. troops from the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.;

Palestine Resolution

Whereas: After 76 years of Zionist occupation, the Al-Aqsa flood battle led by the united forces of resistance in Gaza on October 7, 2023, took the struggle for Palestinian liberation to a new level. The Gaza strip, which had functioned as the world’s largest open air prison, saw the check points, barriers, and military facilities used by Israel to oppress Palestinians fall under sustained heavy attacks that the Israeli army couldn’t repel. Israel’s response to this humiliating military defeat was overwhelming force and collective punishment against all civilians and civilian infrastructure in the Gaza strip. Hospitals, schools, road ways, farmland, and all infrastructure necessary for sustaining life in the strip was attacked. In the initial phase of this genocide tens of thousands were murdered by the Zionist entity.

Whereas: Students at universities throughout the country have taken up calls for total disclosure and divestment from the Zionist entity and any companies that support it. Many universities have endowment funds in companies like Elbit Systems, have study abroad programs with Israeli universities, and have stock portfolios in weapons companies like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and Raytheon.

Whereas: In the spring semester of 2024, Columbia University Students for Justice in Palestine started a global encampment movement on college campuses and Students for a Democratic Society led some 20 encampments across the country. The movement helped to ostracize Israel in the US and on the international stage. Campuses faced severe repression. The encampment movement also led to the occupation of campus buildings as seen with “Hind’s Hall” at Columbia University. The encampment movement advanced the struggle and activity of the student movement in ways not seen in decades.

Whereas: Israel has been unable to contain its aggression exclusively to Palestine, it has attacked over 6 other nations within the last year alone. These include Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Iran, Qatar, and Tunisia. In June the Israeli airforce conducted a series of raids against civilian, government, and nuclear energy targets in Iran, starting what would become known as the “12 Day War.” In this war Israel killed thousands of Iranian civilians and many top military and nuclear energy advisors in the hopes of toppling the Iranian government. Instead they faced a series of Iranian missile barrages that broke through the Iron Dome and made Israeli society fall to its knees. Yemen has continued to stand firmly with the people of Palestine launching similar drone and missile attacks at sensitive targets in occupied Palestine.

Therefore: Students for a Democratic Society will stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine and those who take action against Israel and Zionism in support of the people of Palestine.

SDS will oppose any and all monetary or physical support sent to Israel by the U.S. (weapons, soldiers, etc.)

SDS will continue to demand full disclosure and total divestment, academically and financially from all US universities invested in the Zionist project. This includes cancelling study abroad programs in Israel and ending all business deals with Israeli companies or companies that support Israel.

SDS will support and call actions on Nakba Day, May 15th, in memory of all of the lives lost on the mass killings done by Israel on what is known as “The Catastrophe,”

When Israel continues to escalate its attacks on neighboring nations like Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Iran, and of course Palestine, National SDS will call days of action to protest Zionist aggression.

SDS Stands with NAARPR Against Police Crimes, Militarization of Police Forces, and the Deployment of Federal Troops

Whereas, The George Floyd uprising was the largest mobilization for the Black liberation struggle seen in recent history, with solidarity actions spanning the globe;

Whereas, Donald Trump has been elected for a second term as US President;

Whereas, in April 2025, Trump signed an executive order in an effort to reverse the restrictions put on police departments, such as consent decrees, after the killing of George Floyd and to drastically expand the police force from city to city;

Whereas, Federal and local governments in the U.S. have responded with a new era of militarized police and repression on all sectors of society. These intrusive tactics include the deployment of federal troops into major cities, along with officials from federal agencies of all shapes and sizes;

Whereas, mayors of sanctuary cities or whose cities are not “strict enough” on “crime” were summoned in front of Republicans into hearings in order to threaten them into submission, including Black mayors such as Brandon Johnson of Chicago, Van Johnson of Savannah, Georgia, Eric Adams of New York City, and Muriel Bowser of DC;

Whereas, federal troops have now been deployed to heavily-Black cities such as DC, Memphis, and now Chicago, in an effort to wrest control from these mayors, as well as other cities;

Whereas, police have continued to terrorize the Black community, along with Chicano, Latino, and immigrant communities, and in 2025 alone killed Tyrone Bartley in Orlando, Jeremy Flores in Los Angeles, Noe Rodriguez in Santa Ana, and many more;

Whereas, in prisons, police and prison guards have let prisoners Anthony Gay in Chicago and Jalani Lovett in Oakland die from medical neglect, and have outright murdered with brute force prisoners such as Charles Faggart in Jacksonville;

Whereas, the cases of those wrongfully convicted and incarcerated continues to mount in the United States every year by the hundreds;

Whereas, in response to the uprising against ICE raids and deportations in California, the FBI and US State Attorney Essayli have colluded to raid and charge anti-ICE protesters and wage a campaign of terror on our right to protest;

Whereas, this repression is a mirror to our universities’ new anti-free speech policies denouncing protests, beginning with pro-Palestine protests but now extending even to protests of white supremacist gatherings such as Turning Point USA speaker events;

Whereas, in this new environment characterized by an empowered police force, White House hearings threatening Black mayors, and threats to Black students and Historically Black Colleges and Universities following the death of Charlie Kirk, a Black student named Trey Reed was lynched in Mississippi and left to hang on Delta State University campus grounds;

Whereas, SDS has always protested and fought members of the KKK and white supremacists, including successfully shutting down the national KKK convention at Stone Mountain, Georgia, in 2016, and getting injured counter-protesting the white supremacist march in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017;

Whereas, SDS has always recognized and seeks to end seen and seeks to end the connections in the struggle against racist and political repression, a struggle which we lead alongside the National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression;

Therefore, be it resolved, that we encourage all SDS chapters to cooperate with NAARPR chapters in their respective cities in the struggle to establish Community Control of the Police.

We encourage National SDS to call for a National Day of Action against police crimes and to demand community control now.

We call on all SDS chapters be encouraged to take the forefront in demanding justice for victims of police brutality.

We call on SDS chapters to call for the release of all political prisoners and freedom fighters, and to support campaigns to release the wrongfully convicted.

We call on SDS chapters to be forthright in putting an end to the appearance of white supremacist organizations and hate crimes on our campuses by protesting these groups decisively.

We call on SDS chapters to oppose all attempts to increase surveillance and escalate violence against Black, Chicano, and Latino communities, to protest the appearance of ICE agents and federal troops, and to do whatever is necessary to keep Trump’s agents from appearing at our schools and in our neighborhoods.

We call on SDS to, once more, affirm its fighting stance against all forms of police brutality, the creation of cop cities,and political repression of the people of the US.
