A doctor goes over a PET brain scan at Banner Alzheimer’s Institute in Phoenix.

The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America will host a free conference in Houston on Wednesday, Feb. 11 as part of a national education initiative.

AFA, a nonprofit, will meet at the Houston Marriott Medical Center/Museum District from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. p.m. Wednesday to discuss Alzheimer’s disease and its effects as well as how to care for patients with Alzheimer’s.

“Knowledge is a useful and powerful tool that can help make any situation easier to navigate, especially something as challenging as caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease,” Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr., AFA’s president and CEO, said in a press release. “Connecting families with useful, practical information and support that can help them now and be better prepared for the future is what this conference is all about. Whether Alzheimer’s is affecting your family, you are a caregiver, or just want to learn more about brain health, we invite you to join us on February 11.”

Some of the sessions during Wednesday’s conference will include discussions on the latest advances in Alzheimer’s research, caring for individuals with Alzheimer’s and how family caregivers can take care of themselves as well.

The free conference is open to the public. Registration in advance is recommended, which can be done on AFA’s website.
