The City of Brotherly Love was alive with rhythm and spirit as The Dell Music Center, in partnership with Philadelphia’s Parks and Recreation Department, launched its highly anticipated 2025 concert season , Thursday July 10th. Under the visionary leadership of Commissioner Susan Slawson, the opening night was a beautiful reminder of how Philly does music best—loud, soulful, and unforgettable in the world-class amphitheater.
Beloved Philly radio icon Patty Jackson of WDASFM brought her signature warmth and charisma to the Dell as the evening’s MC, keeping the crowd engaged and the energy high from start to finish with her legendary smooth voice, undeniable charm, and deep love for Philly’s music culture.
Fantasia, the Grammy-winning powerhouse, reminded us exactly why she’s one of the greatest vocalists of our time. She didn’t just perform—she owned the stage, slaying every note with raw passion, power, and presence. Her vocals—flawless. Her body—snatched. Her spirit—unshakable.
In a bold, unforgettable moment, Fantasia made it clear , the fans came first. She asked security to fall back so her fans could get closer- reminding everyone that her shows are about connection, not barriers. Fantasia wanted the people to fully receive what she came to bring; pure connection, power, and presence. She gave her all and the people felt the full weight of her presence, and passion, every note lyric was for the fans.
Fans were treated to an electric ride through her catalogue of classics, and the crowd never once sat still. By the time she brought the house down with a soul-stirring tribute to her faith, the Dell felt more like a revival than a concert. As she raised her voice in praise, the audience followed suit, hands lifted high, spirits even higher.
Just before Fantasia lit up the stage, 803Fresh (Douglas Furtick), the South Carolina native and rising star, had the crowd turned all the way up with his summer-ready banger “Boots On The Ground.” It was a full-on party moment—the kind that made you proud to be in Philly, where music and community collide in the best way possible.
Kicking the night off, first to hit the stage was award-winning soul singer and songwriter Avery Sunshine, who set the tone for the night with her signature powerhouse vocals and radiant presence. Emotionally charged and musically rich, she tickled the ivories while belting out fan favorites that stirred the soul and ignited the crowd.
Everything about the night felt right. From the tight, flawless production to the perfectly breezy weather, the vibe was all love, all music, all Philly. The Dell continues to be a cultural gem in our city—a sacred space where legends are born, and memories are made.
If this kickoff is any indication of what’s to come, Philly is in for a blockbuster summer full of soul-shaking performances, hometown pride, and unforgettable vibes.
