Chicken sausage recalled over plastic contamination concerns

The sausage was shipped to stores nationwide.

SAN FRANCISCO — More than 24,000 pounds of chicken sausage was recalled Thursday due to concerns about being contaminated with pieces of plastic.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the recall with producer Kayem Foods Inc. after they got three reports from customers about “white pieces of plastic in the chicken sausage products.”

The “ALL NATURAL al fresco CHICKEN SAUSAGE SWEET APPLE with Vermont made syrup” products with lot code “179” are impacted.

The ready-to-eat chicken sausage was produced late last month on produced on June 28, and packages have a “use/freeze by date of Oct. 1, 2025” on the back.

The sausage was shipped to stores nationwide.

Though there have been customer reports of finding the plastic in the sausage, there have been no reports of injuries, FSIS says.

Those who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them and instead throw them away, or take them back to where they were purchased.

Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Joellen West, Customer Service Manager, Kayem Foods Inc, at 617-889-1600 x247 or jwest@kayem.com.
