SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio authorities say two people were killed and 18 others injured when a stolen Camaro crashed into “a small transport bus carrying a trailer” as it was speeding along a highway Thursday afternoon.
The crash happened just after 2:30 p.m. on Interstate 35 at Leon Creek, near Cassin Road, on the southwest side. Southbound lanes were still shut down hours later.
Police Chief William McManus said authorities were looking for four suspects who fled the Camaro after the wreck, one of them armed with an AK-style rifle.
The identities of the victims haven’t been provided, but McManus said the two killed at the scene were believed to be older adults. Some of the others hurt, he added, were children.
“This is going to be quite an extensive investigation here,” he said.
Drivers are urged to seek other routes, if possible, while crews work to clear the scene.
