Dallas woman seeks justice for brother after hit and run crash

A Dallas woman is demanding justice after her brother left his house on foot and never returned. Tina Stanglin tells us 59-year-old Bobby Phillips, who lived with Alzheimer’s, was killed in a hit-and-run.

Stanglin told NBC 5 she was her brother’s caregiver. It was a role that hadn’t always been easy, especially with his diagnosis. Still, she said the sibling she grew up with – Bobby Phillips – was a light in her life and so many others.

“He was a good guy. He loved his son more than anything in the world. And he loved animals,” she said.

On June 19, around 10:30 p.m., she said Bobby Phillips left the house they shared on foot. When he didn’t return, she called the police, worried about his mental state.

“We heard the sirens, and I thought it was the cops coming to my house,” she said.

She didn’t know at the time that emergency responders were passing by to help her brother, who had been hit by a vehicle. Dallas Police tell NBC 5 Phillips was hit by a driver on Ravenview Road in far southeast Dallas.

“We had an AirTag on his pants. And that’s the only reason we found where he was, because the AirTag pinged him at the hospital,” Stanglin said.

Stanglin said Phillips was less than five minutes from their house when he was hit. She said he walked the area often and was well known by people at a nearby recreation center.

“There’s people usually out all the time out there. And I know somebody knows something,” she said.

Dallas Police say the driver was last seen heading westbound in the 12300 block of Ravenview Road. Crime Stoppers has offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and indictment.

“I can’t sleep at night. I’m having nightmares,” Stanglin said. “I’m trying to write his eulogy.”

Stanglin said she grew up with her brother in Dallas near the neighborhood where he was hit. Now she’s counting on people in the place she calls home to help bring her family justice.

“I just want whoever did it to come forward,” she said. “It’s hard enough to plan his funeral so soon, but then for this to go like this, it’s just horrible.”

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run death of Bobby Phillips is asked to contact Dallas Police at 214-671-0014. Or contact Crime Stoppers at 214-373-TIPS (8477)

NBC 5 reached out to Dallas Police for additional information about the suspected driver and vehicle. We are awaiting details.
