If you long for the days before smartphones and social media ruled the world, you’re in luck: Several Austin pop-ups are leaning into the glory days of the 1990s and early aughts with nostalgic offerings this in July and August.
Chili’s x Tecovas “Booth Boots”
These booths were made for walking! Homegrown brand Tecovas has partnered with the iconic Chili’s on 45th and Lamar to sell a limited-edition collection of “Booth Boots,” footwear made from the restaurant’s famed red seating. For an option to complete your ensemble, the brand is also offering matching “Booth Belts.” The shoes and accessories will be available for sale on July 29 on its website, and select Tecovas stores will be serving Chili’s margaritas on Aug. 2. tecovas.com
Back 2 the Video Store: A ’90s Speakeasy Bar
Those who fondly remember the phrase “Be Kind, Rewind” will appreciate this kitschy cool “video store speakeasy” launching this week. Bucket Lister’s new hideaway hearkens back to the time when Blockbuster was the most happening spot on a Friday night. Browse the video store shelves as you sip movie-themed libations and pose at throwback photo ops. Each ticket gets you a 90-minute reservation and one cocktail or mocktail. July 24-Sept. 7, 610 N. Interstate Hwy. 35
UNO Social Club
Time to play the ultimate reverse card! Classic childhood game UNO is making its way to the capital city for one night only on Aug. 21. Dubbed UNO Social Club, the pop-up at Murray’s Tavern will feature themed drinks, tournament-style play, and plenty of photo ops. Aug. 21, 6 p.m., 2316 Webberville Road
