Elon Musk-led satellite communication company Starlink suffered a 2.5 hour disruption yesterday, which prompted an apology from its billionaire boss.
Per the Downdetector portal, Starlink users started reporting outages at around 3 pm on the United States East Coast. About 61,000 users reported the same on the site. The satcom company that was recently granted a license to operate in India took to X/Twitter and posted an update stating that the issue would be resolved sooner. Elon Musk shared the same post along with an apology for the outage, claiming that the root cause of the issue will be rectified so it is not repeated again.
“Service will be restored shortly. Sorry for the outage. SpaceX will remedy the root cause to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”
Once the outage was resolved, the company’s VP Michael Nicolls, reported the same on X/Twitter. He stated
“Starlink has now mostly recovered from the network outage, which lasted approximately 2.5 hours. The outage was due to failure of key internal software services that operate the core network.”
Nicolls further added,
“We apologize for the temporary disruption in our service; we are deeply committed to providing a highly reliable network and will fully root cause this issue and ensure it does not occur again.”
Starlink is currently in a network outage and we are actively implementing a solution. We appreciate your patience, we’ll share an update once this issue is resolved.
