Adam Sandler includes subtle tribute to Cameron Boyce in ‘Happy Gilmore 2’

Boyce died in his sleep from a seizure in 2019 at the age of 20.

WASHINGTON — Adam Sandler’s sequel to his 90s’ cult classic “Happy Gilmore” included a small tribute to late actor Cameron Boyce.

The second installment was released Friday on Netflix and includes a series of celebrity cameos, including Bad Bunny, Travis Kelce and more. Early in the film, Boyce can be seen on a television screen as Sandler’s character checks in at a golf course. The clip appears to be taken from the Disney Channel series “Jessie,” which Boyce starred in.

The subtle tribute quickly garnered attention on social media.

“Adam put a tiny Cameron Boyce (played his son in Grown Ups) tribute in Happy Gilmore 2. Excuse me while I sob,” one user wrote on X.

Boyce, who starred alongside Sandler in “Grown Ups” and “Grown Ups 2,” died in his sleep from a seizure related to an ongoing medical condition in 2019. He was 20.

“Too young. Too Sweet. Too Funny,” Sandler wrote on social media at the time. “Just the nicest, most decent kid around. Loved that kid. Cared so much about his family. Cared so much about the world. Thank you, Cameron, for all you gave to us.”

The subtle nod in “Happy Gilmore 2′ is the second time Sandler features a tribute to Boyce in one of his films.

In the movie “Hubie Halloween,” Sandler dedicated the film to the young actor with the credits saying “In loving memory of Cameron Boyce. Gone way too soon and one of the kindest, coolest, funniest, and most talented kids we knew. You live on forever in our hearts and are truly missed every day.” Boyce was slated to appear in the film alongside Sandler.
