Some delicious deals are cooking up during Houston Restaurant Weeks, which offers diners exclusive specials to participating restaurants with set menus. From August 1 to September 1, diners can take part in brunch, lunch and dinner options at more than 300 restaurants.

Katie Stone, president of The Cleverley Stone Foundation, said August is typically a slow month for restaurants nationwide, but thanks to Houston Restaurant Weeks, in-store traffic has increased.

“This is such an incredible opportunity for them, and they do see more new diners in August than they ever do,” said Stone. “So guess what’s going to happen? They are going all in. They are going to show off. They are going to put it all on the table. And guess who is going to benefit? The diners and the food bank.”

Houston Restaurant Weeks started in 2003, founded by Cleverley Stone, whose life’s mission was to beat hunger in Houston. Stone was a 26-year restaurant correspondent who lived by the mantra “dine out and do good.” Her daughter, Katie Stone, picked up the baton and continued Cleverley’s mission after her mother died. In 2020, Katie established The Cleverley Stone Foundation, which spearheads Houston Restaurant Weeks.

Over the past 22 years, diners have contributed greatly to the cause. Each meal purchased has a built-in donation embedded in the price of the entree. The $22 million raised equals 66 million meals for the Houston Food Bank, which distributes food to pantries, schools, multi-service centers, hunger relief organizations and soup kitchens across 18 counties in the area. Last year, the Houston Food Bank served more than 140 million meals to support the approximately one in five people suffering from food insecurity.
