AUSTIN, Texas — The final child missing from Camp Mystic after flooding in the Texas Hill Country is a girl from Austin.

KVUE’s Tony Plohetski confirmed that 8-year-old Cile Steward of Austin is still missing. Last week, Gov. Greg Abbott stated that one young girl who was attending the camp had yet to be found.

More than 750 girls were staying at Camp Mystic, a Christian all-girls summer camp in Kerr County, when floodwaters swept through the Guadalupe River area during Fourth of July weekend.

Dozens of deaths were reported in Kerr County, among them 27 campers and counselors from the camp. Three of those victims were other young girls from Austin: 8-year-old campers Linnie McCown, Abby Pohl and Mary Stevens.

Missing in Central Texas

Everyone reported missing in Travis and Williamson counties has either been recovered or found safe. The flooding killed nine people from Travis County, and three people from Williamson County.

Five people from Burnet County were killed in the floods, but officials are still working to locate one remaining person: Marble Falls Area Volunteer Fire Department Chief Michael Phillips.

Phillips went missing on July 5 during the flooding that pummeled the Hill Country throughout the Fourth of July weekend. He was last seen driving an emergency vehicle during a rescue operation near Cow Creek; the vehicle was later located about 2 miles away, but Phillips was not found with it.

As of July 28, Phillips’ body has still not been recovered, though crews continue to search. On July 15, the Marble Falls Area VFD declared an end of watch for Phillips. His family has scheduled a memorial in Marble Falls on July 29.
