With the trade deadline looming, here’s apparently mutual interest between Carlos Correa and the Houston Astros.
HOUSTON — Could the Astros bring back one of the players who helped them with their first World Series in franchise history?
It’s what’s floating out there on the rumor mill and according to MLB.com, a source says the Astros are interested in the reunion.
When Correa left, Jeremy Peña took his spot at shortstop in the Astros infield, and earned World Series MVP when the Astros won their second title.
If Correa were to return to Houston, he’d likely play third base with Peña remaining at shortstop. Right now, the Astros have a big hole to fill at third with leading home run hitter Isaac Paredes on the injured list.
Peña is doing a rehab assignment with the Sugar Land Space Cowboys after spending the last few weeks on the injured list with a fractured rib.
For the season, Correa is hitting .267 with seven home runs and 31 RBIs. Last season, Correa hit .310.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Correa would be willing to waive his no-trade clause to rejoin his former team. Nightengale said he’d also be willing to play third base.
