More than 25,000 people are expected to attend the annual Dallas Mayor’s Back to School Fair in Fair Park on Friday.
The Dallas Mayor’s Back to School Fair has been helping Dallas children in economically disadvantaged families start the school year with school supplies and the support they need to thrive for nearly three decades.
The event kicks off at 7:30 a.m. for families who registered beforehand.
Nearly 13,000 students from 5,800 families are expected to receive free school supplies, backpacks, and other services from nearly 200 vendors.
It takes a lot to pull off an event of this scale. The city of Dallas is supplying the backpacks, Walmart is providing eye exams, Baylor Scott & White is doing kidney screenings and Parkland Health is doing immunizations. Coca-Cola is also providing 200 laptops for the event.
NBC 5 is a proud sponsor of the Dallas Mayor’s Back to School Fair.
The Dallas ISD is also hosting a Back to School kickoff at the Ellis Davis Field House on South Polks Street. Parents can receive on-site registration assistance, and students can get free school supplies, including backpacks and other services.
Not in the Dallas ISD? Several other school districts in the area are hosting similar events leading up to the first day of school.
Arlington: The Arlington ISD is holding its annual Back to School Kickoff at AT&T Stadium on Saturday, starting at 8 a.m. There will be free backpacks and school supplies, but families must register online before the event.
Denton County: Friendship Baptist Church of The Colony hosts a Back to School rally and health fair on Saturday. The event runs from 10 a.m. until noon.
Mesquite: Mesquite ISD’s annual Back to School Fair is set for Saturday, Aug. 2 from 8 a.m. to noon. Families can pick up FREE backpacks and school supplies at one of the following three locations, based on their feeder pattern:
- North Mesquite & Poteet feeder pattern go to Poteet
- Mesquite HS & West feeder pattern go to West Mesquite
- Horn feeder pattern will be at Horn
- Vanguard students will follow their home campus.
No registration is required, but supplies are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
