New Online Special Library Launches With a Focus on the Black Experience

Nationwide — An online special library called The Quiet House Library, has been launched that focuses on the black experience. The need for realistic, interesting and validating literature is still evading the black community. The main reason is because of the lack of representation in our local libraries to encourage the purchasing of black literature which is written by black authors and illustrated by black illustrators and the banning of some of the books written by black authors which highlight racial matters.

An unscientific polling of black literature available in various local libraries indicated that there aren’t many children’s books available that portray black main characters, only if they are purchased at a bookstore.

The average children’s book costs about $10 to $19 and as their reading level increases the more they read and the more they age. What becomes of those books that have been read? The Quiet House Library provides books for all ages so as the child grows they can choose books that are of interest to them in their age group/grade level. Children’s books can be defined as from the ages of infancy through 17 years old. Some children’s books are standalones and others are part of a series.

Children’s books in a series extend the reading experience and maintain a familiarity with the main characters, which in turn increases their interest in reading and wanting to know what is going to happen next? Adult literature is also available in various genres such as romance, mystery and suspense.

The Quiet House Library is an online library which serves the black community offering library collections: Intellectual Thought and Creativity, Fiction, Non-Fiction, Film and Music for all ages. Browse the catalog which is updated on a regular basis. Scan the library resources and literacy resources which gives patrons access to information which can be used for personal, business or homework assignments.

A membership is required to borrow from the library collections and a library card is mailed to each member to place library items on hold, request research assistance and to verify their membership.

The Quiet House Library is promoting literacy, one book at a time. Learn more at TheQuietHouseSpecialLibrary.com
