Prayers Up! Army Sergeant Arrested After Allegedly Shooting Soldiers At Georgia Military Base (VIDEO)

A terrifying scene unfolded at Fort Stewart in Georgia after a soldier opened fire on his own unit, injuring five fellow service members. The base went into full lockdown as chaos spread, but thanks to some quick-thinking soldiers, the shooter, Sgt. Quornelius Radford, was stopped before things got even worse. Now, the community is left shaken as investigators work to piece together what led to the violence.

Chaos Erupts On Georgia Army Base

Early Wednesday morning, Aug. 6, chaos erupted at Fort Stewart in Georgia when a sergeant opened fire on five fellow soldiers at the base. According to Army Brig. Gen. John Lubas, the shooter was identified as 28-year-old Sgt. Quornelius Radford, an automated logistics NCO (noncommissioned officer). Officials say Radford used a personal handgun to carry out the attack, which left all five victims injured—but thankfully, all are “expected to recover.” Witnesses say fellow soldiers tackled Radford mid-rampage, likely saving lives in the process. “These soldiers, without a doubt, prevented further casualties,” Gen. Lubas confirmed.

Background On The Suspect: Quornelius Radford

Now here’s where things get even more eyebrow-raising. Quornelius Radford was previously arrested in May for a DUI—but that info reportedly never made it to his chain of command until after the shooting. Georgia State Patrol says Quornelius was driving a 2021 Nissan Altima with Florida plates when he ran a red light and was charged with DUI in Liberty County. While Quornelius’ job in logistics typically kept him behind a screen managing inventory and repairs, the fact that he brought a personal firearm to his workplace—and opened fire on co-workers—has everyone asking serious questions about red flags and oversight.

How Did The Community React To Tragic Incident?

As the gunfire rang out just before 11 a.m., Fort Stewart went into full lockdown mode. The scene sent panic across the base and beyond, with family members scrambling for updates. Sadie Mohrbacher was watching a movie when her sister, Paige Ciple—who lives on base—texted her in terror: “active shooter on base. We are on lockdown.” Ciple, home alone at the time, locked her doors, hid in an upstairs closet with her dog, and waited. Meanwhile, two of the injured soldiers were rushed to a trauma center in Savannah. And, three others were treated on base, with one undergoing surgery. Authorities declared the post “all clear” by 2 p.m. ET, but the fear and confusion still linger.

The FBI, local police, and military officials are now investigating what exactly led up to this violent outburst. Both President, Donald Trump, and Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, have been briefed. Furthermore this is the second shooting in recent years at the same workspace. And, now, folks are wondering what’s really going on at Fort Stewart’s 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team.
