Crews respond to 3-alarm fire on Texas Woman’s University campus

The Denton Fire Department responded to the fire shortly after 9 a.m. at a new Health Science Center under construction in the 700 block of Administration Drive.

DENTON, Texas — Crews are responding to a three-alarm fire on the Texas Woman’s University campus in Denton Thursday morning. 

The Denton Fire Department responded to the fire shortly after 9 a.m. at the new Health Science Center under construction in the 700 block of Administration Drive, officials said. The building was supposed to welcome students this fall. 

Officials said all construction crews got out of the building, but one was treated on scene for smoke inhalation and released. Some fire workers were also treated on scene for issues related to the heat and released, officials said.

The fire is contained in the roof/attic area of the building, but not out as of shortly after 11 a.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation. 

The Denton Fire Department shared a photo on their social media showing smoke coming from a building on campus and firefighters on scene, and warned of a heavy first responder presence in the area. 

WFAA chopper footage from the scene shows fire crews working on the roof of a building and a multiple first responder vehicles at the scene. 

The fire happened as summer classes are set to end Friday at the university.

No other information was immediately available. WFAA has a crew heading to the scene working to gather more information.
