After costly separation from its former superintendent, here’s how much Keller ISD’s new leader is making

Keller ISD is dishing out hundreds of thousands of dollars to compensate its former and current superintendents.

KELLER, Texas — After a costly split with its former superintendent, the Keller Independent School District has a new leader, and he stands to make a pretty penny.

As of now, Johnson remains on the payroll, earning her $275,000 salary and benefits through Dec. 31, per our content partners at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. That report also states that Johnson received $124,400 for unused sick leave and vacation, and an agreed-upon lump-sum payment of $49,105.

Combined with other benefits, the district will have paid Johnson $466,205 in 2025.

So, what does Wilson’s contract look like?

Wilson makes a $285,000 base salary — 3.6% more than Johnson’s $275,000 base. While it may look like Wilson is making more than Johnson did during her time with the district, benefits tell a different story.

Johnson’s contract entitled her to an $800 monthly car allowance and an annual $7,500 contribution to her retirement  — all on top of her base salary. Annually, the district compensated Johnson to the tune of $292,100.

By comparison, Wilson’s contract is a bit leaner. He will not receive a car allowance and will only get a $5,000 contribution to his retirement fund, bringing his compensation to $290,000. Johnson also received in and out-of-district travel reimbursement, whereas Wilson will only be reimbursed for out-of-district travel, per his contract.

Wilson, who enters the position with 27 years of experience in education, will have to grapple with a slew of issues at Keller ISD — namely, community trust. Since the failed split, parents have filed lawsuits, created petitions and even testified at the state capitol

The new superintendent will also have to grapple with financial shortfalls. Despite giving raises to all district employees, KISD had to trim $9.4 million from its budget last April.
