The Grand Parkway between Interstate 10 and U.S. 290 will be expanded from two to three lanes in each direction to help ease traffic congestion in a part of Harris County that is being rapidly developed.

Leo Flores, a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), said the $157 million project is funded through toll revenue collected on the Grand Parkway, also known as State Highway 99.

“I think the big question is, is my toll going to increase?” Flores said Thursday during an appearance on Houston Matters. “And the answer is no, the tolls are not going to increase as a part of this project. The funds have already been allocated.”

Improvements to existing infrastructure along the stretch of toll road, which runs between the Cypress and Katy areas, will include adding inlets and regrading ditches to help address drainage issues and reduce flood risks, Flores said.

He said construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2026 and take four to four-and-a-half years to complete.

TxDOT held virtual and in-person public meetings about the project this week. More information about the expansion is available at the project website.
