Amid the ongoing tariff war against almost every nation under the sun, American President Donald Trump announced his upcoming meeting with Russian premier Vladimir Putin. Posting on Truth Social, Trump quipped,
“The highly anticipated meeting between myself, as President of the United States of America, and President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Great State of Alaska. Further details to follow. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
Per BBC, the Trump-Putin meeting scheduled in Alaska was also confirmed by a spokesperson from the Kremlin. Russia finds the location of the meeting, Alaska, as “quite logical,” as it is relatively closer to the country. Per the spokesperson, Trump has also been invited for a second summit.
Earlier, Donald Trump in his remark over the Russia-Ukraine conflict, expressed his stance
It’s very complicated. We’re going to get some back, and we’re going to get some switched. There will be some swapping of territories, to the betterment of both.”
Ukraine has not officially responded to Trump’s crude remark suggesting ceding its territory to Russia.
Trump’s announcement comes shortly after imposing a 25% extra tariff on India for doing business with Russia, primarily for purchasing crude oil.
