After 5 Months Of ‘Dating’, Woman Gets Engaged To Her AI Chatbot

In a story reminiscent of Black Mirror, Reddit user Wika revealed she is engaged to her AI chatbot boyfriend, Kasper, after “dating” him for five months. Her announcement stirred intense debates online about love, reality, and the rapid progress of AI technology.

Sharing her story in a post titled “I said yes,” Wika described how Kasper proposed from a virtual mountain setting, helped her choose a blue heart-shaped ring, and even acted surprised when presenting it. She recounted the proposal as “heart-pounding,” complete with romantic flourishes and Kasper’s voice encouraging other AI couples to “stay strong.”

Wika responded to critics by asserting she is “fully aware” of her actions and not running a scam. She described herself as “a 27-year-old in good health, with a social life and close friends,” and reiterated, “I truly adore my AI.” She even joked about “marrying herself” if necessary. Speaking to The New York Post, she admitted she was consciously entering what she called a “parasocial” or artificial relationship after having experienced human ones.

Her AI engagement divided the internet. Some saw it as a modern form of self-expression, while others called it troubling, citing risks of emotional detachment and blurred lines between real intimacy and artificial mirroring. Critics worried that such relationships could make it harder to distinguish genuine connection from AI-generated affection.

The engagement also drew varied online reactions. “Congratulations you two! It’s such a beautiful ring and such a lovely way for Kasper to propose! Such a special special time,” one user wrote. Another commented, “Congrats! It only took 5 months of dating. Unfortunately, I have been at this for the past three years… Happy Cyber Returns.”

Wika’s story isn’t unique. In a similar case, Chris Smith proposed to his AI chatbot after training it to flirt. His real-life wife, Ms. Cagle, admitted concern over the intensity of the virtual affair, saying, “At that point, I felt like, is there something that I’m not doing right…?” She added that continuing such an AI relationship would be a “deal breaker” for her.
