Apple is reportedly preparing a redesigned Apple Watch for 2026, featuring a fresh new exterior and significantly upgraded health-tracking capabilities. The upcoming model is expected to include double the onboard sensors to monitor heart rate, steps, workouts, and other key health metrics. While this major revamp is still two years away, Apple is first set to launch the Watch Series 11 and Watch Ultra 3 this September, alongside the iPhone 17 lineup.

According to a DigiTimes report, Apple is preparing a major redesign for its 2026 Apple Watch, featuring a refreshed exterior and “double the number of sensors” for improved health tracking. The underside of the watch will reportedly include a larger glass section housing eight sensors in a visible ring pattern, enabling more accurate monitoring of metrics like heart rate, blood oxygen, cardiovascular rhythm, steps, and even women’s menstrual cycles. Enhanced power efficiency is also expected to be part of the upgrade.

While Apple has not confirmed these details, speculation suggests that the redesign and advanced sensor array will likely debut in a high-end model such as the Watch Ultra-series, rather than the regular Apple Watch lineup. The company is first expected to launch the Apple Watch Series 11 and Watch Ultra 3 alongside the iPhone 17 series next month. Notably, earlier reports claim that the Ultra 3 will support satellite messaging through Global Star’s satellites, allowing text communication without cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity.
No power leap for future Apple Watch
According to leaks from Apple’s internal code, the S11 chip in the Series 11, Ultra 3 and SE 3 will retain the architecture of previous generations.

Looking further ahead, Apple’s 2025 smartwatch is rumored to introduce blood pressure monitoring, along with a sleep apnoea detection feature currently in development. These additions would expand Apple’s push into advanced health-focused wearables, setting the stage for the more comprehensive redesign planned for 2026.
Currently, Apple’s flagship smartwatch is the Watch Ultra 2, which debuted in September 2023 and has only seen a new color option introduced in 2024. With no major hardware upgrades since, the arrival of the Watch Ultra 3 in 2025 and the redesigned Apple Watch in 2026 could signal the most significant leap in Apple’s smartwatch lineup in years, exciting both health enthusiasts and loyal Apple fans.
