Jesse Pujji, an Indian-origin American techpreneur, expressed his grievance on August 18 about social media platforms’ posts that go blink and miss from the top of the feed. He flagged the annoying bug to the head of product at X/Twitter, Nikita Bier, stating, “Request for @nikitabier. I see it on all social platforms. I load the app, see something I want to read. Then the feed reloads and I lose it…” Pujji asked, “can we fix this?” Responding to the tweet on the very same day, Bier briefed the crux of the issue, claiming to be working on a solution. He stated,
Let me provide some context:The reason all social apps do this is because in all cases, it tests better to show the freshest content (and if there is no network connection, show the old content). Having said that, we have an on-going test to inject the new posts right below the viewport to eliminate the flash, but my prediction: we would have to accept a measurable drop in timeline relevancy.”
Replying to Bier, Pujji dropped the following suggestion for the bird app’s techie on behalf of millions of social media users.
Dude here is an idea. Give the user 10 seconds countdown ftw to save or tag anything they want to read!”

The reason all social apps do this is because in all cases, it tests better to show the freshest content (and if there is no network connection, show the old content).

A couple days later, the X’s product head announced, “After 18 years, this bug is finally fixed.” He mentioned that the fix has been exclusive to iOS for now, “But Android has plenty of quality of life improvements coming.” He also shared that the improvement will be visible to “50% (users) now,” as it will roll out to other users gradually.

The internet erupted in delight while also dropping suggestions, requests, and obituaries to the bug with hilarious memes.
One user wrote, “Great. Could you look into the thousands of X creators who are approved in the Creator Program but haven’t received payouts in months, they just stopped (myself included).” Another user suggested, “Can you add a “not for you” page instead of a for you page, a physical echo chamber already sucks, shouldn’t have to push that onto the online space.”
A third user remarked, “I’m gonna miss that little bugger. I loved getting the hope that dopamine hit only to watch it disappear forever.” Yet another user quipped, “That bug is old enough to vote.”
Yet another user requested, “Can we get a slop filter that removes all AI content from our feed.” One user jibed, “Wtf, no more doomscrolling for it! This deserves ending that Palo Alto house barter and asking Elon a real paycheck!”
