Phoenix-bound flight diverted to Virginia after smoke reported

The flight from Philadelphia was forced to land after “the crew reported a fire in one of the passenger rows,” the FAA said.

PHOENIX — A flight bound for Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport was diverted after a fire was reported on board, according to the FAA.

American Airlines Flight 357 landed at Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia around 11:50 a.m. local time.

The flight from Philadelphia was forced to land after “the crew reported a fire in one of the passenger rows,” the FAA said.

According to American Airlines, there were 160 passengers and six crew members on the flight.

American Airlines released the following statement:

“American Airlines flight 357 landed safely at Washington-Dulles (IAD) following reports of smoke from a customer’s device. The device was quickly contained by crew members prior to landing. Customers and crew deplaned normally. We appreciate the professionalism of our crew and thank our team who are working to get our customers to their destination as quickly as possible.”
