American pizza brand Papa Johns is going to make a re-entry into the Indian market amid Trump tariff tantrum.
The company is eying to open at least 650 outlets in the country with operations commencing at the silicon valley of India – Bengaluru. The third largest pizza delivery company in the world, Papa Johns exited India in 2017 earlier due to reasons too obvious to mention. For the brand’s renewed India franchise, Pulsar Capital, along with UAE-based PJP Investments Group have formed a partnership. In April 2023, the company had announced its bid to enter the “complex” Indian market again. The company will blend international best with local flavors like its rivals, catering to Indian preferences.
Besides international rivals in India like Dominos and McDonalds, the American pizza company will face stiff competition by local outlets, some of whom have mastered the fine craft of pizza and other delicacies.
Reactions poured in reacting to the news online. One user remarked, “Do not give permission to American company.” Another wrote, “they’ll probably flop again. Why not pump up Indian chains instead?” “We should impose “tariffs” on them,” suggested several users online.
One user recommended, “Atmanirbhar Bharat. Only choose swadeshi. Pizza company.” Another quipped, “Patna best option hai outlet kholne ke liye.” Yet another commented,

(Why cant India produce its own brand when no other nation can make food as delicious as us Indians. While we are lagging in other sectors, at least we fare better in making food; sp why not support Indian franchise? What if these 650 stores are local?)
