Bon Appétit, Your Majesty revolves around Yeon Ji-young, a celebrated chef who just won a major culinary competition in modern Seoul. In a twist no one saw coming, an ancient cookbook transports her back in time to the Joseon dynasty.
There, she clashes with King Yi-Heon, a ruler with a fearsome reputation. Turns out, he’s known to execute chefs whose dishes don’t meet his high standards. In this new (old) world, Ji-young must learn how to navigate palace politics and court intrigues, all while hopefully finding a way to return to her own time.
Thankfully, her cooking seems to soften something in the king. Still, life isn’t easy when you fear the chopping block if one of your dishes fails. The series makes for a delightful watch, successfully combining romcom elements with culinary wonder.
Bon Appétit, Your Majesty season 2 could delve deeper into the conflict between Ji-young’s desire to return to the future and her growing ties in the past. For now, the first season is ongoing, with episodes dropping weekly on Netflix. Settle in with a bunch of tasty snacks and enjoy!
