Jocelyn Roberts, a student at Tarkington Middle School in Cleveland, said they saw about 40 gators during the hunt on private property.
RYE, Texas — A little girl nabbed a big alligator while hunting with family members in Rye, Texas, about 70 miles northeast of Houston.
Eleven-year-old Jocelyn Roberts was hunting on a private ranch owned by a family friend, they told the Bluebonnet News.
Her dad, Trey Roberts, was allotted two hunting tags for alligator season, so he decided to take Jocelyn and her 15-year-old brother.
While scouting the area near a lake that connects to the Trinity River, they spotted large drag marks in the mud that led into the water. It was a clear sign that large alligators were in the area.
An 11-year-old Tarkington middle-schooler has a hunting story she will not soon forget. Jocelyn Roberts, the daughter of Trey and Sarah Roberts, bagged an 8.5-foot alligator this week while hunting with her father and older brother on a private ranch in Rye.
They baited their lines with raw chicken on a large fishing hook.
It wasn’t long before Joceyn snared an 8.5-foot, approximately 350-pound gator. Her dad and brother took over as the angry reptile thrashed around.
Jocelyn caught another gator last season, but it was smaller.
She told the Bluebonnet News that they spotted about 40 alligators in the area this time, and described the experience as “crazy.”
